Xbox One

The newest member of the Microsoft gaming family was announced yesterday, and it has been dubbed Xbox One. The announcement was full of news and functionality presentations, such as Xbox Ones improved use of the cloud, its Skype functionality (presumably with its own app extension), the High definition video, and it's ability to multitask and behave as a media and entertainment center, rather than a simple console. They also highlighted Xbox Ones "advanced new look" (honestly it reminds me of the original Xbox) and it's compatibility for current gold members. The presentation glazed over a few points, however; stating that it will work with Xbox live gold along with the xbox 360, but leaving out that the Xbox One will not feature backwards compatibility, in other-words, the One will not play 360 or original xbox games, so hang on to your old consoles if you would like to continue playing them. The Xbox One also features the ability to play used games, as we have been told, BUT playing a used game will cost you an unlock fee, in addition to what you paid for the used game. Xbox One will have security features to back this up, by only allowing you to play games after they have been downloaded (either through the marketplace, or off the disk) to the Ones hard drive. Xbox One does require an internet connection, unlike its predecessor, even when not using online features, the console does not need a constant connection however, but it does need to "check-in" at least once a day. This means that someone without internet would not be able to play a single player game, or use offline functionalities of the console, without connecting to the internet daily.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts

The next Call of Duty has been announced. Titled "Ghosts", this tenth Call of Duty game will be made by Infinity Ward, but it will not be a part of the "Modern Warfare" titles that IW has produced. "Ghosts" will follow a new and unique storyline, with a new and diverse group of characters. "Ghosts" is scheduled for release on both the current and "next-gen" systems, using the console release as an opportunity to start a new chapter for the Call of Duty franchise. As of now, Only the "masked warriors" trailer has been released, but a game play reveal containing more information has been scheduled to coincide with the new Xbox reveal, May 21st.

Is Call of Duty (Activision) rushing the release and development of their new game in order to compete with Battlefield 4 (EA), or will "Ghosts" be the fresh story and redesigned game-play that so many of the series fans have been begging for? What's your opinion?

The Future of Gaming

All X-box players and fans alike have seen the ads for the "future of gaming" to be announced on May 21st. This is undoubtedly the reveal date of the long anticipated next generation console from Microsoft. While it has been given many names by bloggers like myself, no official name has been given to the console, nor have any details of its hardware or software functionality. The few developer comments relating to the new generation of systems only reference the fact that it's a huge leap forward.

Following the announcement of SONY's PS4, the gaming world was waiting for Microsoft to reveal their next-gen competitor, On May 21st, we'll have just that. X-box or Playstation? Comment and check back in May 21st to see how the two consoles stack up.

Battlefield 4 Trailer- Is It Better Than Call of Duty?

If you are any sort of fan to the Battlefield series, you have seen the new Battlefield 4 "Fishing In Baku" trailer. If you have eyes, ears and a heart that is still beating, then you probably wet yourself while watching it. The trailer opens with some soft music and bubbles, slowly rising beneath the water. Suddenly, we realize we and our unit are in an upside-down car, sinking into the ocean. The rest of the trailer is a flashback through actual game-play, that led to the unit crashing into the ocean. It's got action, choppers, explosions, gunfights, and some pretty awesome building collapses. The trailer showcases the realism of Battlefield 4, much like the "Is it real life, or is it BF3" trailer for Battlefield 3 was intended to. The graphics do look to be improved, smoother textures, pockmarked walls, and reflections of reflections (look closely, you'll see it all), but the most impressive thing about the trailer is the way that it discreetly shows off the differences and updates to the new Frostbite Engine. Water ripples interact and cancel each other out, blowing up a wall creates a hole, but it also causes shrapnel of all kinds to fly everywhere, explosives have blast radius and shock waves, bullets are still affected by gravity and wind speed, and buildings don't just implode, they collapse brick by brick, twisting metal pylons and rebar into a tangled mess. In summation, the engine and the graphics are upgraded in unison, to make everything look and feel more real, and unlike the Call of Duty series, which has popularized itself by becoming a social shooter, focused on player satisfaction, Battlefield shows war in it's true, chaotic form. Battlefield will not have you firing a 50 cal. on handed while sprinting, nor will it pretend that recoil just makes guns drift lazily upwards, instead it emphasizes how difficult it is to focus while being shot it, how disruptive explosions can be to your aim, and just how dangerous the weapons you use are. Oh, and no killstreaks, vehicles are in the base you spawn from, to help hold territory or take it, but expecting someone to fly in a harrier to help you, because you killed 7 people? That's just moronic.

Battlefield 4 Trailer- "Fishing In Baku"

I would like to clarify that I love the Call of Duty series, but that I feel it is not a good representation of war- it is a game made for enjoyment, while battlefield is made for realism, and both succeed in their intended markets.

Black Ops 2 Camo Unlocks? Try Hardcore!

If you find yourself having trouble unlocking camo skins for your guns, try playing a few rounds of hardcore, it may be just what you need! Some guns, like the SVU-AS or the M1216 require one-hit kills, but have either pitiful damage or range, making it nearly impossible to get to 250 one-hit kills without getting frustrated and breaking your furniture. In hardcore, getting one shot kills is a breeze, and it makes getting headshots much simpler as well (one shot versus 1-3 in regular CORE matches). While you will not regenerate health or have any sort of HUD(Heads-Up-Display) neither will your opponents, making it a fast paced playlist, where you can kill and be killed rapidly. While you will earn less weapon XP per match, you will complete challenges and camo unlocks faster, earning the extra experience that goes with them. Be careful switching between core and hardcore, or you may be cursing that someone took too many shots to kill, or they killed you too quickly. To wrap things up: Core game modes= good for leveling up, Hardcore= easy headshots + 1 hit kills = EASY CAMO UNLOCKS. Go get those diamonds!
